It’s a known fact that everybody sweats, but some people don’t have the luxury of sweating a normal amount and are burdened with hyperhidrosis, otherwise known as excessive sweating.

In fact, 7.8 million people suffer from excessive sweating. And if you think that it’s not that big of a deal for a person to sweat so much, you couldn’t be more wrong.

Hyperhidrosis means constant anxiety about B.O., changing clothing multiple times a day because your shirt or pants have been soaked through with sweat, and avoiding physical contact with people because you’re afraid they’ll be grossed out by your clammy hands or damp pits.

So yeah, it’s kind of a big deal when you’re struggling with hyperhidrosis.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, Here’s How to Sweat Less

If you’re dealing with hyperhidrosis, don’t sweat it, we’ve got you. Here’s your guide to know how to stop sweating so much.

1) Say Nay To Spicy Foods

It’s common knowledge that our bodies sweat to lower our body temperature. And you know what does a great job at increasing our internal temperature?

You guessed it: Spicy foods.

So if you’re a spicy food lover, maybe consider eating it when you’re alone for the day to avoid excessively sweating at the local Mexican restaurant that has the ultimate spicy burrito that you love so much.

Or, simply just order takeout and eat your spicy food in the comfort of your own home.

So if you want to know how to sweat less, ditching the spicy foods is one way to do it.

2) Be a Vampire

We don’t mean switching your diet to human blood and living in a coffin.

But, think more along the lines of avoiding direct sunlight.
In order to sweat less, stay cool by adorning a hat and carrying around a parasol to block the sun. Carrying around something to fan yourself with (a folder or an actual fan) is a good option to help stay cool when you do start to sweat.

Always try to position yourself in the shade whenever possible to avoid direct sunlight which therefore decreases the amount you sweat. It’s just science.

An added bonus to this is that you'll avoid getting a sunburn as well, which is great for your skin and health in the long run.

3) Wear Breathable Fabrics

Still sweating? Then it may be time for a wardrobe change.

If you want to know how to stop sweating so much, follow these do’s and don’ts of fabrics:

DO wear:
  • Breathable fabrics like cotton and linen
  • Moisture-wicking material

DO NOT wear:
  • Polyester, rayon, or synthetic fabrics (it traps the sweat)
  • Silk, it’s just a bad idea

Certain clothing styles can even help conceal sweating, since you’re likely to sweat no matter what, might as well try and hide it as much as possible.

When it comes to color, lean towards darker or lighter clothing to hide pit stains or back sweat. Colors like black, navy blue, and white can hide sweat spots really well. Choosing clothing with busy patterns can also disguise sweat stains in a pinch.

4) Give Botox a Shot

You heard us right, Botox.

Botox injections are known to block sweat glands, which decrease the amount you sweat. So if you’ve got a severe case of hyperhidrosis and feel as though you’re out of options, Botox may be the way to go.

The downside to Botox is that it’s a bit pricey, it doesn’t always last as long as you’d like, and of course, the fact that it involves a needle inserted into your body...not fun.

 5) The Real Answer To Sweat Less: Antiperspirants
